about

I’ve always felt that there was something truly special about making music with Jay Nair. Our coming from different traditions serves us in a way that doesn’t meet in the middle, but instead allows us to push into new territory and create something totally our own. Part sacred. Part spiritual. Heavily improvisational, and with the intent of new creations.

This music is our second album, and follows up “Songs of Universal Peace.” This was recorded inside the historic St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Sacramento, CA by engineer John Bologni. Where Songs of Universal Peace served as an introduction and molding of our different styles, this record is a launching pad into something completely new where traditions are nodded to but not spent much time worrying about.

This is global music. Music that acknowledges hope and perseverance and new beginnings in everyone.

Thanks for listening.

Jay Nair - Voice, Percussion
Ross Hammond - Steel Guitar, Resonator Guitar

“The real attraction of Hope is that it’s not wholly Indian music but rather a direct, innate merging of East and West with a freedom to let the music flow out on its own terms.”
-S. Victor Aaron, Something Else Reviews

“The music here is heavily improvised and blends Nair’s Carnatic and Hindustani styles with American blues to create something so soothing and accessible, as all the best global music is.”
-Fathima Ashraf, Indulge Express (India)

“Both musicians here listen closely and work extremely well together, weaving their notes into a fascinating tapestry.”
-Bruce Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery (NYC)
