about

Lowburn is a trio recording from California improvisers Ross Hammond (guitar), Jon Bafus (drums) and Steuart Liebig (electric bass).

The improvisations on this record are fiery. There are dynamics throughout both pieces that give breath and space to the music, but the vibe of this record is electric freedom.

This record is made up of two tracks, both of which were live sets recorded in their entirety. Both songs were approached the same way. Set up, plug in, look straight ahead, hit a note and don’t look back.

“Basic Fundamentals” was recorded at Gold Lion Arts in March, 2015. “Making Friends Wherever We Go” was recorded at Luna’s Café in November, 2014. Both were recorded and mixed in Sacramento, CA by John Bologni.

Music Power.

"This is fearless music that bows to few conventions."
-Richard Kamins, steptempest.blogspot.com

"Hammond uses minimal devices on his guitar, has a rich distinctive sound, always tasty and great at developing themes. This music doesn't sound totally free yet takes us a long journey and is quite a comfortable ride at that."
-Bruce Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery Newsletter (NYC)
